The many nearby way-marked footpaths make this a perfect location for walking and just to the north is the Casentino - a vast area of forest, green alpine meadows, streams, waterfalls and high breezy ridges with spectacular views, criss-crossed by many footpaths and trails.
Nearby towns include the medieval walled town of Anghiari, one of the most beautiful and striking hill towns in Tuscany; Sansepolcro, home of the annual "Palio della Balestra" (Crossbow tournament) and birthplace of the artist Piero della Francesca.
Just to the south is Umbria, the green heart of Italy, with its famous historic towns of Gubbio and Assisi; the city of Perugia, capital of Umbria; and Lake Trasimeno, the largest lake in Italy after Como, Garda and Maggiore.
